Field Day 2018 "Superheroes" And REAL HEROS!
Field day is always one of the favorite days of the year for many students. This year certainly was memorable! We had many parent volunteers which made it very successful. Our PTO is always so generous, and they work hard to make this day great for everyone. I'm thankful we have such strong support from our families!
This year our PTO selected "Superheros" as the theme for Field Day. I thought this would be a great opportunity for a learning experience for our students. I invited some REAL HEROS to our field day! All it took were a few phone calls and emails to arrange for some very special guests. We were blessed to have the Firefighters, Police, and National Guard volunteer at our field day this year! They each ran training courses for the students. The children LOVED it, and they were inspired to be in the presence of real life heros! Many thanks to these heros who spent their day with us!
Please check out the pictures and videos below for a glimpse of our day!

Nintendo Switch Cook Serve Delicious 2 Gameplay!
Nintendo Switch – Neon Red and Neon Blue Joy-Con
Hey guys,
Check it out!
I got an early chance to try out the latest, Cook, Serve, Delicious 2
Thanks to the developer and promoter for sponsoring this game. Got to say, I was a little lost when I first started to play. Especially, in figuring out the control. Even, with the tutorial, I was fumbling around. After awhile though, I finally figured it out.
That's why, this morning, I decided to make another gameplay video. The last time, I played this kind of game was on facebook. It was pretty popular back then. Added, a lot of gaming friends from around the world. Some, are even still on my friend list.
This game really test your brain, eyes and fingers coordination. You also need a plan. My plan was to first prep some food on the HS (holding station). That's what the tutorial showed me anyway. Also, I should go through the order list from top to bottom and vice versa. Instead, of going all over the place.
Once, you've got a plan and comfortable with the control. It's all, execution time. You still need to read and mind the ingredients. I would probably say, once you've mastered the game, it's all on instincts. No wonder, it's such a popular and addictive game.
There are also other part of the game where you can level up and win medals. More shops and food menu will open up. You can renovate and design your own restaurants. Oh, you can also play co-op. I'm sure, there's more to it as I've only just started playing.
You can pre-order the game on eShop for the nintendo switch

The Device By Dale C. George, Book Review
George d'Clare is living the best he can with the situations in his life. In his mid-fifties, he is in the early stages of Parkinson's disease, doing what he can for himself, his family, and others. During this time of personal trial, he is approached by a stranger, Henry Stevens, with an incredible story. A story that doesn't turn his life upside down, but twists it.Now George and his wife Madison are involved in a struggle against a World War II Nazi general and time is becoming more and more limited.
I was given a copy of The Device by the author, Dale C. George, for review purposes.
Plot
The Device is a time travel, Nazi hunting story. A number of German officers after WWII escaped to hide in other countries. Lieutenant General Berger had a different plan. He was escaping into the future. An American intelligence officer, Captain Hank Stevens, discovers the plan and decides he has to do something about it. He also knows the technology is dangerous and decides he need to keep it a secret so it won't be used for evil.
Time grows short as Captain Hank develops Parkinson's disease and he needs to recruit another pilot of the device to continue the hunt for Berger and also be able to move forward in time to bring back the cure for Parkinson's.
Style
The Device is written in a style that builds on the time travel aspect of the story. The chapters start with the presentation of the situation at hand. Then jumps back in time to present the set up to the current situation to bring you back to the now. The chapter then continues forward.
Chapters also jump back and forth in time. Some chapters take place toward the end of World War II, then there is the time right after the war. Others are placed in the 1980s and 1990s. There are those in the current time frame and one in the future with the narrator.
The protagonist, George, in the forward before the prologue, tells us this story is true and he is telling it to the best of his ability and creating dialogue and thoughts based on what he thinks others in the story would have said or thought. This leads to the use of first person in the chapters when George is telling his part of the story and third person when he is narrating the events of others. The narration doesn't go deep into the characters but does cover descriptions.
There is a lot of detail in the telling of The Device. Rooms are described with details about how they are laid out and the tools and equipment placed there. The actions characters take and how they take them are described in great detail. The detail doesn't cover how the device allows time travel, but we know what it looks like, and what it looks like when it is working. This same level of detail is given to the workshop, homes, and other locations. However, this level of detail about the feelings and insights of the characters is not to the same level. We are given light coverage of why events impact the characters the way they do.
Parkinson's disease is always in the background of The Device. The degenerative nature of the disease plays up the time limitations being faced by the characters. It's a subtle way of pushing the characters in the story to take action and alter their plans because of the limitations the disease places upon their minds and bodies.
Overall
The Device has an interesting premise. I like science fiction and the device fits strongly into the field. How Dale C. George handles the paradox of time travel and the arrow of time was well done. Tying in military history and bring in the Third Reich brings in an antagonist that allows a definite opposition. At some points this reminded me of Iron Sky (link to movie on IMDb).
The structure of the chapters, internally and externally, along with the change from first to third person, make this a harder read. At times it was harder to follow the storyline and I had to make sure I was keeping plot points in order. Because of this, I'm not sure if I caught the foreshadowing that led to the resolution of the problem at the climax.
This is Dale C. George's debut novel and there is a lot within in to provide a fun time travel adventure. I look forward to what he presents next.
I give The Device 3 out of 5.
The Device is available on Amazon (link).
Dale C. George has an author page on Amazon (link).
About the Author (from the book)
During my Air Force Reserve career, nothing gave me more pleasure than documenting the actions of the men and women who wear our nation's uniform, and to subsequently see them presented with a medal or an award for their accomplishments. After my Parkinson's disease diagnosis, and a great deal of encouragement from those close to me, I decided to channel my skills toward a more-personal (albeit ambitious) goal, and the first pages of The Device were born. Since I enjoy reading about military history, and my favorite genre is science fiction, combining them turned out to be a fun experience; one that has rekindled my love of writing, as well as sparked my imagination. If you have a comment, suggestion, or critique please leave a comment here or send an email to guildmastergaming@gmail.com.

The Dread Rocket Raticate
Mount Moon is an interesting place. Located in northern Kanto, it's notable not only for its wealth of Pokémon Fossils, but also its extraordinary rate of meteorites per year. I spoke with Gym Leader Brock about it before leaving Pewter City and learned that it was somewhat a rite of passage for Pokémon trainers heading out from western Kanto to the eastern plains. There were certainly easier ways to get to Cerulean City and Saffron City, but Brock assured me that if I was serious about Pokémon training, Mount Moon was the best way to go.
Mount Moon is an arduous climb and littered with numerous interlocking caves that weave beneath the peak. It was not for the faint of heart, but it would be a chance to bond with my Pokémon in the wilderness. I used some of the winnings I earned at Brock's gym to stock up on food, potions, and a handful of Pokéballs before setting out down Route 3 toward the famous landmark mountain.
Along Route 3, I battled a very enthusiastic Shorts Appreciation Fan Club. Delightful young trainers eager to challenge Brock and head off on their own through Mount Moon, but mainly obsessed with shorts. It was along this route and among these youngsters that I first heard the name Team Rocket whispered. According to these young campers and hikers, Team Rocket had set up an operation of sorts at Mount Moon and their presence there was deterring a lot of trainers from passing through.
Back then, Team Rocket was an organization to be feared. They had a lot of influence over everyday life in Kanto, and very few people had the courage to stand up to them. However, as a newcomer to the Kanto region, I was truly clueless at the time. I could see that the kids were unsettled by the thought of Rocket grunts lurking in the caves of Mount Moon, but I was incapable of understanding what this threat meant to them, or what it would come to mean to me. I pressed onward down Route 3 hoping to reach the base camp and Pokémon Center at the foot of Mount Moon before nightfall.
Along the way, I managed to catch a Spearow who I gladly added to the team. I named him Shakespear. Shakespear would come to serve me well inside the dark tunnels of Mount Moon. He needed some training before we entered, so I set to work using the base camp as our new base of operations. Shakespear proved to be a formidable bird and was not unlike Kiwi in his ability to grow quickly adept at fighting and training.
While we were training in the shadow of Mount Moon, Lucky developed a powerful psychic attack that had the potential to inflict confusion upon his opponents, and I noticed Nibbles able to inject a bit of poison from the tip of his horn with some regularity. I was certainly impressed in the team's progress. It was time to start our trek through the underbelly of Mount Moon.
![]() |
The Zubat was one of the easier Pokémon to sketch, due largely in part to their huge colony within Mt. Moon.
As we methodically made our way through Mount Moon, I was determined to get Vesper up to par with my other traveling companions. He would often open up a battle with other Zubat, or with the occasional trainer we found along those winding paths, only to be replaced with Shakespear who was an absolute terror in those tunnels.
Shakespear earned his place on my team as the number one Zubat deterrent on Mount Moon. He could out-perform them at every turn, pecking them out of the sky and sending a message that we were not to be trifled with by other Zubat. Those other Zubat did not get that message, however, and continued to plague us the entire time.
Among the outer caves of Mount Moon, I ran into a wide variety of trainers. As Brock had mentioned, it truly did seem as a thoroughfare for aspiring trainers to test their resolve against both the forces of nature and each other. In this particular case, Mount Moon served to test young trainers against a never ending onslaught of territorial Zubat. There were young boys and girls, among them a bug catching kid who wandered too far from Viridian Forest, I presume. I passed and challenged the occasional hiker and a science enthusiast. None posed much of a problem for my team and the pain of losing Rascal felt like it was passing somewhat.
In the heart of Mount Moon, I finally encountered members of Team Rocket. As I approached in the darkness, I heard them talking. Another young trainer had passed through quite recently and dealt them a severe Pokémon beating that still had them upset. Instead of keeping him out of their operation, he had apparently just blown straight through them and their Pokémon without hesitation. When they saw me lurking in the darkness, eavesdropping on their conversation, well they decided to take out their frustrations on me.
Although most of them were weakened by this previous trainer to a point where they couldn't even muster a Pokémon to participate, there was one trainer in that dark tunnel I will never forget. He was the champion of their little operation under Mount Moon, and he would make me pay for wandering where I wasn't wanted. He only had one Pokémon to face my five, but it was enough. I was lucky he didn't have any more.
This Rocket Grunt had an absurdly powerful Raticate, an evolution of my previous Pokémon, Rascal. I knew I had to be careful and so I threw out Lucky to face him. Lucky had recently learned to harness particles on its wings into powerful toxins, and so I had Lucky blow a debilitating sleep powder onto the Dread Rocket Raticate as I would come to call it. As expected, the Raticate dozed off gently and opened itself up to tormenting psychic attacks from Lucky.
What I did not expect was its incredible resilience to Lucky's powerful psychic ability. This ability had taken down numerous thick skinned Geodude along the tunnels of Mount Moon, but the Raticate was formidable. I could tell it was almost defeated, but just as Lucky was going to incapacitate it, Dread Rocket Raticate woke up. It quickly evaded the next attempt to spread a sleep powder. Then it bit down and it bit down hard on Lucky. It was a blow so devastating that Lucky was indeed lucky to not pass out from the strain. I had to switch.
I took a moment to collect myself with all the other Rocket grunts gathered around to cheer on their formidable leader and his terrible Raticate. I knew his Raticate was on the verge of defeat. It would only take one more solid hit to knock it out of the fight and claim a victory. Vesper was still useless. Kiwi and Shakespear were valid candidates, because of their speed and agility. But of all my Pokémon, Nibbles had the most solid defense with his very thick hide, so I felt if any of them were going to survive that devastating hyper fang it would be Nibbles.
Sadly, I was wrong. Nibbles came out of his Pokéball twitching his long ears and ready to face any challenge. Nibbles didn't even have the chance to see what hit him. That damned Raticate bit down on Nibbles head so hard that he was done in seconds. There was no time for Nibbles to react. His fight was over before it had even begun. I let out a loud wail that echoed through the caverns beneath Mount Moon, but that exclamation of shock and disbelief was drowned out by the numerous members of Team Rocket whooping and hollering at their leader's small victory.
It would be short lived. Kiwi came out and could sense my distress. He launched a brutal quick attack on the Dread Rocket Raticate and ended the fight in a single decisive blow. Team Rocket was not amused, but they were out of Pokémon and wouldn't dare lay a hand on me with my trained Pokémon at my side ready to defend me.
I carefully excused myself from whatever nefarious plot they were hatching in that large cavern. They allowed me to pass on my way without any more provocation. They probably said a bunch of intimidating junk that those gangster types like to say, but honestly my heart was sunken deep into the ground. I wouldn't have heard anything they said. Although probably meaningless to them, I had failed Nibbles and now we would part ways forever.
Speaking honestly, I had high hopes for Nibbles. He was so small and weak when we met, but he had the heart of a champion. I thought Nibbles would be with me on Victory Road, facing down the Elite Four and the Indigo Champion. I thought we would take on the world together, but these foul Team Rocket hooligans put an abrupt end to that fantasy.
I nursed Nibbles back to good health in some quiet corner of Mount Moon and spent our last remaining moments together just appreciating the company. Much like with Rascal, I tried to explain to Nibbles why it was important to me that he lived out the rest of his life here on Mount Moon (and I could truly think of no better place for him) and why I would have to press on without him. I shed a few tears and gave Nibbles a careful hug, avoiding his poisonous horn. He seemed to understand and with a final look at me, he scampered off into the darkness.
I soldiered on for Rascal and Nibbles. I pressed on to Cerulean.

Gobliiins: Underneath A Carrot Patch
By Ilmari
With the skeleton distracted by cup and ball, I could take the key and open the small cage. A small mouselike creature emerged and escaped through the window, but I still wasn't closer to completing the level.
Time for more experimentation. Spelling the feather turned it into a flyswatter. A fly was buzzing around, so I naturally let Dwayne swat the animal. With no better idea, I let Hooter enchant the dead fly, which turned into a dart. What should I do with this thing?
Throwing the dart on wizard's picture opened up a cupboard containing the voodoo doll used for enchanting the goblin king. I picked the doll up - and I still hadn't completed the level! Turns out I had to also pick up a random bottle of elixir to finally move forward. Quite a messy level: no clear goal and the puzzle solutions made no sense even with hindsight.
Next level had a tighter design. I obviously had to find my way past the wizard, who would zap anyone trying to walk by the opening in the wall. Dwayne was carrying the elixir from the last level, and drinking it made him invisible. That should have made it easy for him to sneak past the big baddie.
After exhausting other options I noticed there was something hidden under roots of the tree. Hooter's spell lifted the roots and Dwayne found a bird call underneath. Blowing it called a bird, which depending on where Dwayne stood either dropped an egg on his head or hatched one of the eggs in the nest. When Hooter enchanted the hatched egg, he got a lift to safety.
With Hooter on the other side, he could easily use his magical powers to move the horn couple of inches, so that Dwayne could use the invisibility potion without being noticed. Now I only had BoBo to worry about. There was a carrot lying about, with which I could gain the attention of a rat, peeking from a hole in the ground. Hooter then turned the rat into a pin-up lady for a few seconds. While the wizard's gaze was transfixed in her, BoBo could walk to his comrades.
My task was to find Shadwin, good wizard, who lived under a carrot patch. Here I was on one but I still had to figure out how to get under it. After couple of minutes I found out that Hooter could enchant a rock, which would grow into a sort of ladder, with which I could climb to the top of the slab. When I used a stick that was lying around on a differently coloured point on slab, a watering can appeared.
When I watered the small sprouts, they grew into large carrot tops. It was up to Hooter to spell the carrots completely out. Most of them were monstrous creations, which destroyed the health of the goblins.
One of the carrots looked like an alligator with a key on its nose. When hit, the carrotgator dropped the key, which could then be used in another carrot with a keyhole. I had found my way underground.
The good wizard Shadwin was very sleepy and I had to find a way to awaken him. There was a box of matches lying around, and if BoBo hit the pile of balls, Dwayne could pick one of them up. Maybe I should then use the cannon and hope that the old man would hear its sound?
I had to first change the direction of the cannon by letting BoBo hit it. Now the cannon was pointed more upwards and ball wouldn't hit Shadwin. Instead, it hit roof above and a carrot landed. Carrots were Shadwin's favourite, so maybe I should put the carrot in the pot.
The smell of carrot stew soon awakened Shadwin. Problem was that he was hard of hearing and couldn't understand a word of what we were saying. With no other avenues to explore, I repeated the exact procedure for finding carrots and let Hooter enchant it this time. The result was an ear trumpet, through which Dwayne could speak to Shadwin.
And still I was stuck on the same level! I picked up a stick that had just appeared on the floor and used it with the big gong. The gong turned into a dimensional portal after hitting it, and a small pendulum appeared.
After picking the pendulum, gobliiins were ready to move to the next level through the portal. Shadwin explained that dragon's fire would be essential in destroying the voodoo doll. Since this post is long enough, let's stop here and leave the dragon for the next one.
Session time: 4 hours 25 minutes
Total time: 9 hours 30 minutes

I had managed to get in wizard's house, but then I had no idea what I was expected to achieve. Time for plan B, that is, random clicking around. What I soon found out was that the big skeleton was very ticklish and dropped a skeleton key, if I used a feather on him. I couldn't take the key right away, because the skeleton was guarding it.

When Hooter enchanted the hatched egg, he got a lift to safety.

If I were the wizard, I'd definitely take a notice of the flying egg

Except this one. This one improved their health
One of the carrots looked like an alligator with a key on its nose. When hit, the carrotgator dropped the key, which could then be used in another carrot with a keyhole. I had found my way underground.

Why would you put a cannon in your house?
The good wizard Shadwin was very sleepy and I had to find a way to awaken him. There was a box of matches lying around, and if BoBo hit the pile of balls, Dwayne could pick one of them up. Maybe I should then use the cannon and hope that the old man would hear its sound?

This wasn't what I meant
I had to first change the direction of the cannon by letting BoBo hit it. Now the cannon was pointed more upwards and ball wouldn't hit Shadwin. Instead, it hit roof above and a carrot landed. Carrots were Shadwin's favourite, so maybe I should put the carrot in the pot.

Of course, I must use the cannon for this
The smell of carrot stew soon awakened Shadwin.
